chinese new year! haha..
a pretty quiet cny's eve, tho the days leading up to it were filled with prepping - me making konnyaku jelly for my neighbours, cookie baking, cracking and peeling gingko nuts, tying red pipecleaners around the plants at hme... etcetc...

new moon abalone... dont really enjoy it but somehow its an inaugural part of our reunion dinner every year.
the whole spread! haha... this yr's yusheng was pretty good. bought the yusheng ingredients as usual from this specialty shop in geylang, the raw salmon from the japanese fish market place in parkway (whom the sashimi guy vv kindly specially cut a bit of salmon belly for me). the fishmeat-w pork inside-balls that i got frm geylang were surprisingly vv good too. yay! =)

baking day today!! =) =) =)
i baked 3 types of cookies... a snickers cookie, scourtins, and white choc muesli crunch! hehe not v chinese new year i know. but its never been in my blood to go make jam tarts and what not. somehow western cookies are much easier to make. not so traditional i suppose.
anyways, they turned out pretty great! =) snickers was wonderful, scourtins (this olive cookie similar to shortbread) tasted fantastic but were abit too crumbly so they were kinda falling apart (shall have to relook at my recipe), and the white choc muesli crunch was pretty alright =) slaved in the kitchen for 4hrs man. crazy. bah. hahaha. but ive been looking forward to a good bake for awhile.

date night after a day of anatomy and the anatomy museum with lynette and wenkien measuring each other's faces to see if they have facial features adhering to the "golden ratio" 1.614. haha sadly none of them fit.
my dinner =P we went to the cafe at queenstown library cos lawrence insisted that i'd love the fish and chips there. =P it wasn't too bad, for the price it was terrific. haha...
on 111 to orchard...
ok nonsense shot of our popcorn and tickets to the movie! haha we had to wait abt 10mins for them to open the theatre to seating. so we spent the time playing with my camera and eating sweet popcorn. i love sweet popcorn, haha too bad he wanted some salted ones mixed in, so i spent like half the movie digging the packet searching for sweet ones haha BAH.
bought 3" high shoes from xodus at an insane price of $5! haha. original wld have been like $50 or so. mad. they're pretty and pink and brown hee... and they make my ankles look nice. the only drawback is tt on them, im about 1.8m. hahaha... tragic.

went to shenton way area to pick up lawrence's new pda-pocketpc-hp.
stopped by circular road at some little eatery for lunch which served really good food. i cant remember the name of the place but it was next to this detox bar.

interesting evening watching KE7's Fame production. was alright larh... zhenzhen and sheryl were terrific! haha.. went with marcus, zhenjin and joshua to watch it. gosh 1 girl with 3 guys?!? haha... and fongseng dinner after that at like 10pm. i think that the prata at fongseng isnt great. the kosong one at the v least is qt floury, or so lawrence said. the redeeming factor is the cheese and egg prata i think. its the only thing i order there. noticed many ppl ordering roti john there tho. shall give that a try next time.

hmms the week's been interesting... getting back to sch, seeing all the familiar faces again... trying to get down to some work here and there hopefully... heehee... went out somewhat.
was reading the sunday times today, and i was pretty surprised by the article in the investing section. this taiwanese lady, who happens to be unemployed, used her credit card to make some profit, abt NT1million if i didnt remember wrongly. WOAH. that's smart ass man. like she used her card to spend abt NT3million on shopping vouchers (that can be refunded for cash), chalked up like a zillion points from the credit cards, used these pts to redeem 20 first class air tickets to US, and sold the air tickets online for NT45k i think. my head is still reeling from those numbers. but i think she makes the profit from the airtickets. and can get the shopping vouchers refunded anw, so there's no issue. im just wondering, with exhorbidant credit card interest rates, how does she get the capital to pay up for the shopping before the vouchers can be refunded? ok maybe i dont quite understand how this thing works. hms.
ohoh last wk, jan 4th, was my daddy's bday! i baked this ultra delicious choc cake for him on the day before. haha he was amazed that when he put his fork to the cake, to cut it, hot gooey chocolate oozed out! hahaha... nice surprise eh? =P served it with butter pecan ice cream and cherries as below:
looks v black la. cos the cake was dark brown cos there was a crispier crust on top covering the gooey chocolate centre. and the cherries are black cherries (tt my daddy likes hehe) he finished the whole thing!
heehee... and i had alot of extra batter left, so i baked the rest for a longer time in another ovenproof plate. baked it longer this time so there was less soft chocolate centre that oozed out, so tt the cake can keep longer. but i was so proud of how moist the cake was =P hahaha...
ohoh and my erm improvisation for a bain-marie! haha i didnt have one to melt chocolate in, so i just floated a bowl in a pot of water. it turned out a little disastrous cos as i added more choc and butter inside to melt, the bowl got heavier and erm sank till a little water splashed in. BAH. but thankfully that didnt have any detrimental effect on the cake =P sinful la.. for those bits of cake u saw, 2 entire bars of premium dark choc went into it and almost one whole slab of butter. bah.
baking is soo fun. been browsing food blogs lately, and my hands are simply itching to try out some of the recipes i found there lately hahaha... =P cny coming up soon! so maybe i'll get to bake again =)

first day of school today. meeting friends was fun, lectures werent. didnt like the first lecturer. the marzipans turned out not too bad. strong almond flavour an acquired taste tho. took all of my willpower not to guzzle them up during the 2wks that they sat on my desk before i brought it today. i like the renal lecturer. prof kaur was good too, as usual. im getting her for anat this cycle; head and neck. but anat slot is 3-5pm which is blearghy cos now i have 4hrs to nua between lecture and pract. i miss my old 11-1 slot which i managed to get for the first 2 cycles. renal seems quite interesting, but interesting or not still must mug. such is life. popped down to ikea and orchard aft class to meet my darling for lunch and a spot of necessity shopping. i was so tempted to buy stuff, amongst other things, a pretty lavender coloured ream of paper to print my lect notes on. but that freaking paper cost $11.80 for 500 sheets, which is like 2ce the price of normal white paper which is like $6odd for 500sheets. bleah. sadness.
shu gave me this pretty pink frame with pics of us in it for xmas. i bought matching purple ones and filled one of them in so far. haha pasted the foam roses from my pgp wall on them, and i think they're pretty. now my desk looks like this:
haha i like. my room needs lots more clearing up tho. and i'd love to have more time to make lots and lots of handicrafts like clay figurines for photo frames, decorations for whatever other nonsense. i'd even really really like to make my own lampshade for my room. hahaha... but i dont have the luxury of time. no one does. hehe... but i'll look into it. haha...

my room is lacking in storage space. i cannot graduate to year 2 till i find more space for year 2 books. good excuse. =)
spent today clearing my room, after procrastinating for a looong time. incorporating the stuff i brought back from pgp has shown me that my snazzy new frosted glass floor to ceiling cupboard that takes up one whole wall of my room is inadequate for a growing girl (with lots of STUFF stashed away - don't ask me what STUFF is. its just random bits of stuff that have accumulated over the years). bah. and one would have thought that with the new renovation i'd have added everything i need to my own space.
school's starting. depressing notion. kit kat should truck over a few hundred boxes of their kit kat chunkys to my place. good stuff, that.

yay ok now that ive got my computer (along with all my precious photos and memories) back, i can post thursday's pictures. hee =)
thursday saw me going to selene's house bright and early, to hang out with my dear friend (who's been like a sister to me all these years), shuen, and alina! =)

in the evening, i met di at nydc!!! =)=)
hee what a blessed day to meet my 2 overseas best friends on the same day haha...
shiyun joined us after that, hee =) too bad sarah and liangsi werent back from US and France respectively, so our little outing was kinda incomplete. nevertheless it was fun =)
lawrence joined us before and after his tuition too! haha... oh yes notice my new hair cut! haha i think the fringe is quite short haha, takes some getting used to.
haha my favourite shots of my favourite girls haha... they were amazing la, we spontaneously decided to come to my house that night to stay over. haha... didnt take any pictures of the stayover though, lost my laptop on the way back, then was pretty upset that night. thank goodness these 2 were here to support me through it though... thanks girls *hugs*

I GOT MY POWERBOOK BACK!!!!
OMG. it was surreal larh... on monday evening after we put up the posters on sunday night at the busstops along 16 route, lawrence got a phone call from a police from marine parade police post saying that someone turned it in a few days ago. But they kept my laptop at their place for 2days nobody come and claim, so they sent it to the divisional HQ lost and found at bedok north already. so nice! the police saw the notice, called to inform us that it had been found!!! haha...
then i was a little bit skeptical about the authencity of the caller, after lawrence called to tell me the good news, so i called up the MP police post again to verify (under the pretence of forgetting where to go to retrieve the computer)... and well it was true! haha the policeman i spoke to said that they thought it was mine because the description on the posters fitted that of the person who turned it in, and well he checked with all the divisional HQs in Singapre, and this was the only Apple powerbook found within the last few days! haha.
went this morning to the bedok HQ w lawrence despite a raging fever and a sore throat, and i literally squealed when i recognised my zeroshock sleeve-covered lappie on the table!! haha... whoosh. so i got it back =)
then we went to take down the posters we put up haha...

the amazing thing was that the person returned my laptop without leaving his/her name, nor contact details. so i cldnt call him/her back to thank him/her. im definitely eternally grateful though.
celebrated with bak chor mee because ive been craving for it for a long time! haha...
bah. had like zero appetite for the past few days because of this whole incident. but now that i start feeling hungry, i have this massive throat infection cum tonsilitis, and a high fever to go with it. bah. sadness. i have kitkat chunky in my fridge waiting for me.

devastated.
thursday was a wonderful day meeting sel/al/shu and yun/di...
but i lost my beloved powerbook.
super duper devastating can.
yun and di were supposed to stay over, and yun wanted to go hme to grab sthg before coming over. so we went to her hse. i was kinda distracted on the bus by some issues, and when we reached her busstop, we jumped off and i realised the moment i hit the kerb that i left my powerbook on the bus!! GAH.
tried running aft the bus but it left alr... then di and i tried to hail a cab to chase after the bus. but it took awhile to get a bloody cab. sighs.
the very very nice cabbie drove v fast for us, tried to catch up with the bus, but somehow we couldnt find the bus. there were lots of traffic lights and road hogging traffic like this STUPID van which was driving at 40km/h in the centre of a 2 lane road.
in the meantime, called lawrence with the bus stop number, who called sbs for us (2 extremely flustered girls) to report the loss, and checked the 16 bus route for us. take note that this was abt 10mins aft i got off the bus and realised my lappie was still on it.
16 loops somewhere in marine parade. so we got the cabbie to drop us at chij along MP road, so that we cld preempt the bus, and check them as they came by. lawrence also managed to get the 3 bus plate numbers most likely to have passed old airport road busstop (yun's hse stop) at 930pm on thurs. so happened that we managed to get on these 3 busses and they all didnt have the lappie anymore. i was sitting at the 2nd last row on the bus.
darling lawrence drove to bkt merah interchange which was nearer his hse and the start/terminating pt of the bus 16, to check them as they came in. the bus drivers of the few buses di and i checked even remembered us. but all dun have. di and i ended up walking to neptune court (vj stop) stop to wait for yun's parents to pick us up and send us to my house.
sighs. im damn devastated that someone most prob took it. totally screwed by my parents. went to msia on fri, just came back awhile ago. came down with intermittent pretty high fever when i was in msia... had to take lots of panadol to suppress it so that i wldnt spoil the mood of the 5 families (dad's college friends) who went to malacca for Afamosa and countdown.
dont know what to do anymore. printed posters am going to head to 16 route to paste them in abit. am offering a reward. reported the loss to sbs too. thanks lawrence for thinking of all these cos i was too flustered to think straight.
my lappie was on low power too, like 10%. hmmms. depressing.
wont be moving back to pgp too cos im not considering replacing my powerbook. my hse pc somehow cant log onto hotmail/messenger/yahoogrps/nus email/gmail tho. nonsense la.
grounded next wk. bah. but i deserve it la. what a way to end 2005 and start 2006. sincerely hope it somehow gets back to me. sighs.
