another boliao thought in the midst of mugging.
if i only like the white parts of this cake, and hate the coloured (cocoa infused) parts, does it mean im racist???

damn happy. i'd been itching to make croques for ages. and well, from what i read, they are best made with swiss gruyere cheese! and well, in sg, how the hell do u find gourmet cheeses anw. well that is, if you are me and ignorant abt such things. so anyway, I came across gruyere at jason's supermarket, raffles city basement, where i was shopping for snackfoods before ballroom! wheeses. haha. wasn't cheap, mind you, at $3.85 per 100g, and the small slab i bought for my family's breakfast tmr costing more than 9bucks... but still i was happy =)
croques are supposed to be these french grilled cheese sandwiches. croques = crunch (supposedly, si, pls correct?). therefore the sandwiches, whilst being oozy and dripping with cheese, cream and ham, are supposed to be crunchy too! haha... and gruyere is supposed to be the best cheese for making it, because it has a delicious nutty flavour (which i believe will go well with the rosemary ham i bought to go with it - i hope), and its supposed to melt really well! yeps. there're many versions of croques, but the one im making tmr, will be with buttered (on the outside) french white bread (that's what the label from the bakery said... *shrugs*) with rosemary ham, and between the ham and bread, im thinking of grating the cheese into some homemade bechamel sauce (french white sauce), and then toasting the whole thing till the cheese/sauce thingey is oozy and melty. whee! finish off with some more melted cheese on top of the whole sandwich!
god im so excited haha... and the only reason im making bechamel sauce is cos i found a v easy looking recipe for it, and i cant be bothered to go down to cold storage just to buy a bottle of sauce.

sian haha... ppl like zj is excited abt cooper, and wenkien abt his new drums and room, and me? cheese sandwiches. how silly-sounding. but if u know the amount of time i spend browsing food blogs, haha i think u'd understand =)

poor little cooper (who was supposed to be named pinkypoo btw)...
separated from its loving parents and about 6 other wriggly little siblings shortly after birth.
always the loner, couldnt fit in anywhere (see video on zj's blog)
cruelly abducted by a devious man (boy?) for his own sadistic pleasure...
watch it sleeping so soundly, oblivious to the treacherous world around it.

i suppose my closer friends in med probably know that i write what arguably are the most colourful physio notes in m1. and BECAUSE writing an entire year's worth of mindmaps is a crazy task that now has filled about 1.75 of those sketchy books, my colour pencils are in bad need of a makeover. SHARPENING! whee! love my set of 36 fabel castel colour pencils. especially the turquiose and orange, which, evidently is the most used, being the shortest of the lot. runner ups are the pink, peach, and yellow-green. the browns, greys and blacks, are the least used and stand almost new. oh yes. WHITE. who would colour with white??? gosh.
i can't wait for the day when i get to go into art friend, and gamely purchase that large box of fabel castel colour pencils with a whopping 48 colours.
(ps. i wrote this on sunday morning. it took me till monday afternoon to finally be able to upload these pics. blogger is cranky bah)

first ballroom lesson yesterday w lawrence!!! what on earth am i starting a new dance class when my Pros are in a measley 2wks? bah haha. well i needed to get out of the house and do sthg fun and constructive. and we always wanted to do ballroom =) so there we were! he chose the beginner's ballroom class at shawn and gladys, we did waltz and are gg to do the foxtrot in maybe 5wks time. there were others i were v tempted with too... like social and latin. hee. nvm start w ballroom first =) so anyways waltz was pretty fun. all elegant and prim and proper. tilt head 1/8th of the way to the left and pull it back, chin high... imgaine long flowy ballgowns, weddings, beautiful music... heehee. nice but will be awhile before we get there =)
ohoh and the sch required us to get dancing shoes. which seriously made us have 2nd thoughts abt this... haha but in the end we went for it anw. and they are SO PRETTY! even tho we got the cheapest taiwanese made ones. *shrugs* very pretty still! haha... and this is officially lawrence's FIRST pair of dance shoes; my errrr maybe 12th or so (considering all the ballet shoes, pointe shoes and character shoes i've had since i was 5?) but my first ballroom/latin pair!

wonderful dinner at vis-a-vis tonight =) to celebrate mum's bday. in the pic above were our desserts - creme brulee and birchets. creme brulee was really soft and melt in ur mouth, served with poached strawberries and choc coated passionfruit icecream. wonderful combi. birchets were small patties of choc with banana dough- baked till crisp. served on poached pineapple, eaten with white choc and tiramisu icecream. whoosh. its so nice when so much thought goes into the preparation of the food laid in front of you. the french onion soup there was really really really wonderful too. thick savoury broth, with bread soaked in it, covered in a generous layer of cheese and baked. woah. i was swooning man hahaha...
the rest of today was spent packing up my room, reorganising my wardrobe, organising my notes to start mugging for pros... basically get rid of the clutter around me and in my brain too. went to the gym aft a long hiatus of 3mths i think. still managed to do 5km. hahaha not too bad there =)oh and my heart rate rose from the prev 62. its now 82, now more normal at least. haha def an indication i aint as fit as i used to be anymore. boo. gotta get my ass off the bed and chair and start running regularly again!

gosh. bean reminded me today how i havent blogged in such a long time haha. well CAs are over. biochem was pretty good =) somehow miraculously got 26/30 despite having forgotten everything abt metab 1hr before the paper. lucky shit. haha... the rest i doubt im so lucky. totally screwed esp after prof raj went through anat spots today. shall just keep my fingers crossed till monday, when results should be out.
wah day of last paper, had a "dessert" lunch with cel at coffeeclub. i had the tiramisu latte and she the strawberry romanoff.. hehe... AND THE WAITRESS ASKED ME MY AGE cos my thing contained alcohol! so funny! first time i kenna this hehehehe.... I LOOK YOUNG WHEE! we then had an exciting time shopping hehhee... cel was on a roll! =) haha. i was on a "im not going to spend $$" mood so i just bought a nice book - The secret life of bees, with which to enjoy my post CA period =) its a damn nice book.
mum's bday yesterday. haha... woke up bright and early to make her breakfast!! haha...
boule bread slices with cream cheese and delicious apple & cinnamon jelly (which sel's mum got us from US last yr), with crisp thin red apple slices and pieces of honey walnuts all toasted till the jelly melted and the apple slices were warm and soft hehehe... vv delicious! got mum her fave giant strawberries over which i sifted icing sugar too! hehehe =) ohoh and i packed a packet of nice nuts for her to bring to work =)
yay she looks like she liked it!
spent the rest of the day asleep and out... went for lunch with fiona at secret recipe... then spent the rest of the day trawling the malls for mum's pressie, cake and flowers. haha... got her a nice cookbook by her fave author betty saw: asian retro food. hehe has recipes for lots of food she and my dad used to eat back in msia =) and got her her fave cedele carrot walnut cake, and a small bouquet of white roses! hehehe... yay! hahaha... fun =)
spent today aft lecture out with lawrence, bought his new ixus 60. damn good deal at the suntec IT fair pls... so much cheaper than my ixus 55. sighs. ok appearance wise both are like damn similar. almost identical in terms of size, shape, design. but his is a 6megapixel, and has abit more colour functions. so its basically canon's upgrade from mine hahaha... and the deal was fantastic. he paid $599 nett and the cam came with TWO 512mb sd cards, a card reader, and a travel kit (with table top tripod and camera case and cleaning kit)! woohoo! wonderful deal pls. i paid $630 for mine haha. and it didnt come w all these freebies, just ONE measly 512mb card which i've found very useful haha =) happy for him. hehe. spent the rest of the day lounging in his house. took a nap (i seem to be SOOO tired nowadays. keep sleeping), watched like 6episodes of greys anat i think. had nice meesiam for dinner courtesy of his maid =) so nice. haha yay. good day.
and tmr, im going to the gym and high tea! whee!! =) haha
excitingness. dont want to start mugging for PROS. sian. bean and aileen started today liaos =( stress. haha. but its in 3wks time. nonsense la. i mean, what is the point of cramming simply to pass m1, when i know i will so forget everything in a few weeks time? seems so sad and pointless. of slogging all the way through when u know deep down (and when everyone tells u) that u will forget 90% of the stuff by the time u actually become a bona fide doc! haha. whee.
ran into minxuan at the IT fair today, she was temping for UOB at their booth, and we walked past it to get into the convention hall. i saw this uniformed girl dashing at me and i was like oh shit oh shit oh shit... these promoters are damn aggressive or sth. hahaha. but it was her! my sweet cybermatrix jr frm rgs =) so fun! haha... and interesting part was that at the same time, when i met her, lawrence's platoon mate turned out to be temping at the same UOB booth too! hehehe funness. hehe...
