wonderful time out with the girls!
had a wonderful night out with sel, cel, chiara n hwying on tues night! =) we went for soba at paragon basement, and then drinks at timbre after that! this was kinda like a gathering to see sel again just at the end of her 2mth hols back in sg. the dear girl's leaving for ann arbor again on sat morning! *sob*!
nail in my chopstick. *urps.
cel, hwying, chiara n i decided to treat sel to a flaming lamborghini! hehe. she said its really good, ive shld try one soon. =)
so i suppose its apparent that we took alot of pictures. this is like a small selection of it already. soo many more on sel and cel's cameras! haha. ngak at timbre sang really well, but somehow all his songs were really depressing that night. i ended up just nuaing there w my long island tea in this state of semi-consciousness, lost in my thoughts, and listening to him. left early that night too, as i was really tired, having slept just 2.5hrs the night before. all in all, had a wonderful time chatting with the girls, sharing stuff, and just being together again like the old days in jc (except with alot more freedom AND alcohol now=P).

rainy thursday
this morning on the way to school, i was terrified on the roads. could barely see further than the car in front of me, and the traffic was soo heavy. on the way back from holland v, it was all misty and dreamy, esp on the benjamin sheares bridge. the road was really wet, and the cars travelling on it splashed up tiny droplets of water. so many cars, so many splashes. from my driver's seat, it looked like there was a perpetual dreamy-like mist covering the surface of the road.
everyone's getting super excited about D&D. all through lectures the people ard me were chattering away - about liyana's tutu (she's borrowing mine), cel's wings, marcus's bowler hat (he's going as charlie chaplin now) etcetcetc. and then in the girl's toilet (THE place to be after lectures for a little bit of gossip), i discovered that ours wasnt the only group jabbering away. haha. took a little more effort than usual not to get caught up in the hype, and to focus on lectures. got somewhat lost in the pharmaco lect. i mean, the concepts are easy to grasp. but soo many equations, my brain just shut down upon seeing equations. i thought that we'd escape maths once we got into med. unfortunately not so. michealis-menton, henderson-hassalbach have all made a reappearance. COFM's been blasting out statistics like nobody's business too, and whilst i once thought i understood things like confidence interval, P-value, t2 test, the lecture by COFM sufficiently confused me all over again. i shld have just skipped it.
keep thinking about this particular incident. i was chatting w my cousin who's doing 2nd yr med in msia, and heard tt she and her friends rented an apartment. me, thinking abt my singaporean friends in hall here and friends living aboard in the States or wherever else, immediately said "wah so fun, can go furniture shopping and stuff w ur friends, make the place comfy"... whereupon she snapped back "where got so comfy like u all... our living room just use plastic chairs, our bedroom so many ppl squeezing, we just use foam mattresses" . i felt DAMN bad larh.
oh and i have a 2nd counsellee. deborah, whom i discovered reads this blog too. haha HELLO! my other counsellee's woochiao =) im a bad counsellor. havent prepared ANY material to pass down yet. boo.

sunday afternoon at my house!
hehe on sunday afternoon, marcus, christine and hwying decided to come to my place for some baking! we made zhenjin's birthday cheesecake brownie, and some wonderful melty centre choc cake for ourselves! =) here are some pictures =)

happy birthday bob lee!
monday was zhenjin, aka BOB LEE (as seen on the cake)'s birthday! he is also known affectionately as Hairy Lee. hehe. anw, a whole bunch of us decided to surprise him in the canteen with homebaked cheesecake brownie that marcus, christine, hweeying and i made the day before and a present from the LBBC, which was rather eventful =) shall let the pictures speak for themselves. i hope you like it bob! =) [he's bob because one fine day in m1, chris, hazel and hwying decided that bob is a name that suits him =P]
the pretty pretty cake which turned out quite good! =) hweeying arranged the "BOB LEE" on it! =)
oh dear, we've lit the candles, where is zj??? (they looked for him in the canteen, toilet, LT... everywhere!!! but couldnt find him!!!)
crap.. the candles are burning out and the birthday boy still isnt here!!! better blow out the candles first =P wait. ahhhh 2 of them are relightable candles!!! =P here's wenkien trying to snuff out the relightable candles with his fingers.
ah finally the birthday boy's here at last =)
as u can see, it was brown day. haha. but a few of us were in green instead, as an anti-LBBC protest =P hehe... nvm.

my D&D outfit muse...
isnt she gorgeous???
haha had a wonderful day today... will blog pictures of that later when i upload them. anyway, after school, celene, liyana, mirriam and i decided to drive down to arab street (in 2 cars nonetheless despite the difficulty to find parking spots there) to the costume shop along beach road! its called Masquerade. Which happens to be our theme =P haha how fitting =) tried on a few items, wanted to be arwen from LOTR initially... but finally stumbled upon this really beautiful white kimono which we all felt i looked good in. and the rest all said it looked like lucy liu's character in Kill Bill vol.1. hehe. =) unfortunately there wasnt a white obi, so i had to go for a silver one instead. but still pretty nonetheless. finally decided to rent it, together with the sword and clogs. and the shop keeper, upon hearing that we were from NUS, gave us a discount! so im paying $35 instead of the usual $50 for the entire outfit! haha.
celene found this really pretty white feathered wings, and a gorgeous silver hand held mask. she's going to go as juliet from romeo and juliet, her favourite character of all time! so happy for her =)
yay my outfit's settled, and my table's finally settled on our theme properly... movie characters =P hehe. i hope marcus' willy wonka outfit goes well! so looking forward to seeing how it looks on him! hehe... we found this cute red furry hat that totally goes at the costume place! marky go take a look!

the lazy sunday morning
gosh. this is the perfect lazy sunday morning to sleep in. yet i cant anymore. futilely trying to force myself to absorb the wise words of robbins, katzung, levinson and fitzgerald, with the lulling sounds of raindrops drumming into my roof above me. my room is atmospheric. its dim and cool, with only my study lamp on - just the way i love it... lots to anticipate today. friends coming, another (hopefully not too-short as always) chat with lawrence when he comes online at the end of his day...
last night at dinner, i was telling my parents about m2. a little about the tracks we study... about PBL, and such. there was this other gentleman, bald, in a red shirt sitting near my dad obviously listening in, with a bemused expression on his face. it made me wonder... is he just another member of the public interested in unveilling the curtain around medical studies, or more scarily, is he some doctor/professor-type, amusedly listening in to a naive student talking enthusiastically about her studies with barely an inkling of what's to come.
jolted awake abruptly this morning, with yet another dream/nightmare whereby someone's trying to threaten the freedom and lives of my family and i. this one involved relatives and a machine gun (dont ask me what type, i am clueless abt such things), and a plot to escape through my parents' room window to the neighbours'. i hate these dreams, yet they come too frequently. perhaps an indication of my subconscious fear of something. i dont know.
shall return to patho. else my weekend will be burnt with no studying done at all. sighs.

peanut butter oatmeal cookies!
i just remembered that i DID have a blog-worthy photo to post after all... haha =P after that bintan trip, trudging back to school on monday morning, i was surprised by this AMAZING package of cookies from marcus, zhenzhen and sheryl! ooh! =) totally unexpected, and for no reason at all! the girls were at marcus' place the night before to bake, and somehow decided to make ME the beneficiary of that session! so luckylucky me got a whole container (bright chirpy yellow container tied in pretty olivegreen&gold ribbon!) of them! so incredibly sweet! it really really made me day dears =) haha thanks!
i shared them with some friends cos there were so many cookies! and the container wasnt air tight so i wanted these cookies appreciated before they lost their crunchiness... =) and everyone who tried them said that they were good! yay!

new-ish blog layout!
hello! haha i got sick of the stupid having to flick thru pages to find my tagboard and links. so ive completely mutilated the scripting and created my own! put the tagboard on the main page now =) and no more silly links =) and best of all, i found this rogue script lurking around somewhere which had been preventing bean and em amongst others from tagging. so now they can finally tag again! =) yay! i kind of think that it looks messy, but i dont know what else i shld do with it for now. comments or ideas anyone? tag pls!! =)
had a wonderful day today =) went out for brekkie with my parents at ya kun, and then shopping with my mum at tangs where we spent $180 - i bought a simple white spag strap and a gorgeous red skirt, mum bought 2 cardigans and a v nice black shirt blouse =) happy! haha! then went for late lunch w mum and dad at crystal jade la mian xiao long bao. gosh im gonna get sick of it soon =P bah. ramen anyone?
dinner was again, wonderful... jap buffet at ikoi has filled me bursting at the seams =P
no pics lately, havent taken many blog-worthy ones haha =P interesting things happening tmr. prob will have pics then =)

my sleep cycle is screwed. woke 5x last night between 130 and 7am hoping to catch lawrence online for a little chat before i went off to school. unfortunately he wasnt there. and i was tired and grouchy in school all day. him being a million miles and 12hrs away isnt doing us any good.
costume rental is expensive. cel, joshua and i trudged down to beach road and peace centre after lectures today to search for costumes. $50 rental for 3days. i wld so much rather buy the $179 coast dress that ive been eyeing at forever. but my other (cheap) alternative is to go as the ballerina frm the Nutcracker, with the white tutu which i wore for rj dance nite last yr... which is rather revealing waist down. and everyone standing ard me will have to do so at a 2feet radius. seems weird to wear a tutu for D&D.
lecturers who know too much abt the subj arent that great lecturers sometimes. some of them tend to gloss over the topic too much, and when they talk abt impt points, they go too fast and explain in an oversimplified manner (the cell bursts?!?). worse still, after confounding most of us, they then go on to set difficult application-thinking based questions in the exams to "weed out the good students from the bad". sighs.

went to school on monday feeling great and fresh, but here i am now, being tired all over again. BAH. but still markedly more refreshed than last week. had a good, albeit long day yesterday. a long string of lectures in the morning, filled with deciding our D&D table theme (garden theme! thinking of being a butterfly or a black widow! =P bean's gonna be a ladybird hehe...), almond milk break, meeting bean's TK, and of course listening to lectures =P rather xiong though, now i have this whole stack of stuff to catch up on again. thankgoodness today is an early day for me. perhaps i'll get to come back early to do some catching up.
lunched with fiona's anat grp with celene, always nice to know new ppl in medicine. haha. FRS was rather a waste of time... so many people didnt go... and for those who went, everyone just sat around chatting and gossiping whilst our poor poor TAs went around doing the experiment. Thought it was only confined to our bench, but turns out that this happened at just about every other bench too. bah. huising and i pitied our poor TA doing his work unappreciated, and ended up following him like a shadow, much to the amusement of the guys at our bench, who all seemed to be high on sthg. But i guess it was effective in allowing us to appreciate simple tests like PCR, gel electrophoresis (totally bored w this 2 procedures after SRP), DNA extraction and sequencing.
went to clementi's the daily scoop ice cream shop with christine, hazel, hweeying and fiona after that. there was that talk by khaw boon wan that we had to stay back another 2.5hrs for. lychee martini icecream was a nice perkup to the day =) we gossiped abt random people so much it was hilarious haha. ice cream there is good too. i must go back again, when i get the car. ahhh aft what christine said, now i really really wanna try the honey and clover gelato from the jap gelato place in wheelock! bah. dinner at crystal jade in holland v with the girls and tianloon, jess, jerry and zhenjin after that. whereupon we rushed back for the talk in chris and tian's cars. haha. what a great thing to have friends who drive =P
the talk was alright... i think he's a good speaker. but it dragged on for sooo long! the email said '1hr long candid talk', but at 830 it wasnt done yet. mum was waiting outside already, so i just left anw. haha.
waiting for lawrence to come online...
shopping with cel and marcus on friday for D&D stuff! yay... =)
gotta catch up on patho, immuno, microb, and neurosci. crap that's everything. hai.

~*bintan dream*~
just came back from an amazing weekend at bintan with selene, uncle steven and auntie kimsiang =) we ate soo much good food (put on like 1kg alr haha =P), swam in the sea where the water was qt clear, had an amazing spa massage courtesy of our parents =P, had a banana boat ride with my dad, sel, and auntie kimsiang, went to the 'real bandung factory outlet' for a little bit of shopping haha, walked ard in other gorgeous resorts, and slept alot! it was an amazing 2D1N and totally memorable!

after that AMAZING spa massage, we all headed down to the banyan tree resort for dinner which was just so amazingly gorgeous and expensive looking. selene and i with the sunset in the background =)
at the banyan tree resort, there was this beautiful setup. dining on the rocks - 1 table for 2 only. gosh, just looking at this i can imagine such a romantic setup when the sun goes down already.
lobster. not mine, but auntie kimsiang, and my parents all ordered this. i got a taste. it was surreal. the lobster flesh melted in this soft buttery goodness in my mouth. ooh. haha. uncle steven and sel ordered steak, which were very good too. my lamb was gorgeous =) haha. i was surprised to get such good western food in bintan!
lunch just before we got back, selene and i with a matching bintan dream cocktail =) quote "she's the drink and im the foam" hahaha.

byebye.
farewell dinner with his mum and brother and me at turf club on mon night. fresh seafood. amazing dinner. we had like lobster, salted egg crab, abalone, bamboo clams and sea bass. woah.
at the airport on wednesday, this pic was with his brother and selene. Selene kindly came to the airport to accompany me to see him off. His other dsta friends came too. thanks dear =) after we saw lawrence off, she came over for the evening and for dinner too.
last couple shot till perhaps apr next year. it was all awfully fast =( skipped sch that day to accompany him at home. at least i did, else i wldnt have been able to say bye to him properly. ohwells.
its been so hard to smile lately. but its good to know that he arrived safely and all. he's called a few times already. today, during choir, marcus ran thru the length of mirriam's huge house to pass me my ringing phone cos he might have suspected it was law on e line or sth. so sweet haha. and it was =)
going to bintan tomorrow with selene's family and my parents. shld be 2 days of sun sea and relaxation! =)

focaccia bread again.
tried this recipe out again on thursday. with black olives and some olive oil in the batter this time. it was amazing. fresh out of the oven in the crisp fresh dawn, my mum and i hacked it apart, peeling off the sea-salt+olive+herb infused crust that was so crunchy and crusty, and swooning over the steaming soft insides. a few hrs later, lawrence had a slice of it too. and he still pronounced it delicious. i tried abit. nothing beats the smell and taste of bread straight of the oven.
the only drawback abt this is that i have to premake the dough the night before, and wake up at 6am to prep it and bake it in time before my parents leave for work at 730.
here's another look at it.
shall endeavour to try making it with caramelised onions next time. =P or even oven grilled garlic. ooh.
too bad sch's reopened.

shopping@orchard
not a very fruitful yet nevertheless very nice outing to orchard today. went to cine to try get my laptop looked at (batt probs i believe), only to be told that there wld be a $50 diagnostic charge so i shld try it out myself first. went to crumpler, but didnt get the bag lawrence wants yet. in the end bought irrelevant stuff - pink towels from aussino sale! haha! oh and some relevant stuff - ingredients for the cheesecake brownie i just baked.
nice lunch at din tai fung =)
at aussino, where he seriously considered buying a bolster and some quilt covers to bring over. he's saying "shy!" hahaha.

lawrence brought me to the Hilton hotel this afternoon to hear them perform. the guy pictured there sang the lines "i will always love you" to me! ok i am enchanted. but that's not the pt. they sang really really well, and were really animated and funny. they're performing at the esplanade tmr night! bah. oh and there's even one singaporean in the bunch!

night cycling!!!
marcus, zhenzhen, sheryl and i went night cycling! we met at zz's place, and cycled to bedok north ave 4 for famous bedok bak chor mee, which wasnt too bad! went thru siglap hill (wheee! im going downhill!!) then to esplanade, where we nuaed for a long long time. went to the merlion after that, and did some climbing as u will soon see. an interesting encounter with a mainland chinese woman there who made us teach her how to use her hp camera (which was totally in chinese, horrors!), wait for her to clamber up the merlion like we did, and take pics, and then when we got on our bikes to leave, she chased us to get us to help her take more photos. totally weird. and this was at 230am at the merlion, mind you. went back to zz's place for some mahjong after that!

dinner @ marina sq on friday!
marcus, joshua, bean and i met for dinner at marina sq on friday night! super fun =) we had thai express, gossipped, shopped, and had dessert at swensens. bean n i bought necklaces from Diva, marcus bought a nice shirt from Massimo dutti, and then bean n i bought cosmetics (makeup, and cleanser for me) at Skin food. shopping was so fun! because us girls kept trying on everything in the shop (necklaces, eyeshadow colours, etc) and kept making the guys comment and help us choose. yeah. in the end we got rather pally with the Skin food salesgirl even.
after dinner, i met up with lawrence, who happened to be in the vicinity (@inkbar in westin stamford) with his dsta scholars. just met up to chat for a short while before him and his friends before they adjourned to look for choc fondue.
