sitting here at starbucks siglap in a secluded dark corner, brings a host of memories to me. mostly about the time i went to the gelato place in bukit timah with lawrence - decadent butterscotch! and how we had alot of fun spending time together; him in his army uniform lookin pro and all, reading his scifi book, and me mugging bio i think. hehe..

im devastated that they're converting the old siglap wet market to some snazzy supermarket, ntuc fairprice i think. gradually the siglap of my memories is changing into something new and hip, gone was the stationery shop where mum bought me my first set of colouring pencils; where me at age 6 held my granny's hand to go there, so that i could buy a $5 card for my mum's birthday. it was my own money, and i remember the card vividly still (think mum still keeps it somewhere). it had a bunch of purple flowers on the cover and it was pop up! purple flowers galore.

and well, the wet market with jianliang's mum's fruit store, where she'd always give us free fruits, but inevitably charge more tho her fruits are always fresh and good. i wonder what's become of her stall - is she relocating or what? haha.. and well i cant remember much of the old siglap, just these few vivid memories. i think there was another wet market where siglap centre now stands, but siglap centre was built when i was pretty young so it was already present in most of my conscious memory.

the starbucks im sitting in now used to be coffee bean; at the height of the ice blended craze, my dad used to bring mum, uncle and me here to drink it on sundays. and his drink would inevitably be ice blended mocha large. and mine would always be the cinnamon one. hehe... and well, ice blended is really ex, one trip like this would cost like $20. gosh. heh...

werner's was here since quite a long tiem before. i cant remember when they moved in. but i discovered it only recently; their sausages and pastries are to die for, and well toe said their pot roast and whatnot are good too. i shall go try. and well they even cut down the patch of greenery next to it to make a carpark to accomodate the larger volume of traffic and demand for parking lots here. doubtlessly its more convenient now, but still the scene's changed.

shops once patronised, restaurants that made up the framework of the family's weekly sat nights out... the patch of trees i used to always gaze at as we drove by...

as times change, only memories retain what once was.
